Introduction

Table of contents

1.0 Purpose

The purpose of these specifications is to establish the requirements for the approval of gas metering devices, such as gas meters, ancillary devices and associated measuring instruments, based on any measurement technology or principle used to determine the quantity or properties of gas at operating conditions.

All features or functions of a gas metering device that are not explicitly addressed in these specifications are also subject to any additional Measurement Canada (MC) requirement and specification that is applicable based on the technology, principle, feature or function.

Notes:

  1. Requirements applicable to various types of gas metering devices are set forth in subsequent parts. For example, the requirements applicable to diaphragm meters are found in Part 2.
  2. Some of the requirements in Part 1 apply only to certain types of gas metering devices. Therefore, references to the requirements of Part 1 have been added in subsequent parts where appropriate.
  3. Part 1 includes general performance test requirements that can be applied. To obtain test conditions and performance tests for a specific type of gas metering device, contact MC.

2.0 Scope

These specifications apply to gas metering devices approved by MC pursuant to the requirements of the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act and the Electricity and Gas Inspection Regulations.

Notes:

  1. These specifications are not applicable to liquefied gas or steam gas metering devices.
  2. Devices incorporating correction functions and devices for internal temperature compensation are included in the scope of these specifications as well as any other electronic devices that may be attached to a gas meter.

3.0 Authority

These specifications are issued under the authority of section 9 of the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act and Part III of the Electricity and Gas Inspection Regulations.
