Standards calibration — Gas pressure

Pressure devices used as standards and belonging to Measurement Canada inspectors or authorized service providers (ASPs) are calibrated for use in the field.


Method:

  • High precision pressure gauges (0 to 3000 psi) are calibrated against Measurement Canada's reference dead weight testers.
  • Pressure gauges (load differential – 0 to 29 psi, static – 0 to 3000 psi) and dead weight tester working level standards (0 – 2500 psi) are calibrated in direct comparison to digital pressure controllers calibrated in relation to the National Research Council's (NRC) primary deadweight testers.
  • Barometers (0 – 20 psia) are calibrated in direct comparison to secondary digital barometer calibrated in relation to the NRC's primary deadweight testers.

Measurement conditions:

  • Temperature: 20.0 ± 3.0°C
  • Pressure: Atmospheric
  • Humidity: 50.0 ± 15%

Calibration location: Measurement Canada, Approval and Calibration Services Laboratory (ACSL), Ottawa, Ontario.

Fees: Various fees, as indicated in Schedule I, Part IX — Determination of Gas Measuring Apparatus Accuracy of the Electricity and Gas Inspection Regulations (SOR/86-131).

Only standards used by Measurement Canada inspectors and authorized service providers are calibrated by Measurement Canada's laboratories. Standards and apparatus must be authorized and registered with Measurement Canada to qualify for this service.

Request calibration services

To request calibration services, complete the Calibration Services Request (CSR) form (PDF, 101 KB). A form must be completed for each standard.

Issues have been reported with the use of Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. If you are using these browsers, the form can still be downloaded by saving it to your computer.

  • In Chrome, the save button is located in the bottom right corner.
  • In Mozilla Firefox, the save button is located in upper right corner.

You may wish to notify the gas laboratory of when it can expect to receive your standard(s) in order to help expedite the calibration process.

Shipping requirements

Applicants are responsible for shipping arrangements and charges. Devices are to be sent to:

A completed copy of the Calibration services request (CSR) form must accompany each device shipped. Ensure that an active/valid shipping account number for return shipping is identified on the form.

Packaging

Packages not meeting these requirements listed below may not be accepted.

  • Standards must be in a reusable container.
  • Containers must not be sealed with nails. Crates or boxes with a hinged door or cover fastened with screws are acceptable.
  • Provisions for re-packaging and the return of standards must be made before delivery. See Return of standards for more details.

International shipments and importing requirements

It is your responsibility to ensure that:

  • Your shipment complies with all customs and importation requirements.
  • You have pre-paid all applicable customs and importation fees and charges.
  • All brokerage, import, transportation, insurance and any other incidental fees and forms must be prepaid and accompany the shipment.

Consult the Canada Border Services Agency to ensure you are aware of all customs and importation requirements and fees and charges that apply to your shipment.

Return of standards

Return of standards — International

Measurement Canada will provide you with the weight and dimensions of the package. It is advisable to wait for this information prior to making further arrangements for the return shipping of your standards.

All paperwork (waybill, commercial invoice and any other related forms) must be submitted and faxed to the attention of Shipping and Receiving at 613-952-8170.

Any cost associated with the re-packaging of a device is the customer's responsibility.

Return of standards — National

Arrangements for the return of your standards are your responsibility. However, Shipping and Receiving can also make the arrangements provided that an account number and waybill are provided in advance.
