Directive No. 1R7 – Registration Guide

Counsellor registration process

In accordance with Directive No. 1R7, Counselling in Insolvency Matters (the Directive), when providing for BIA insolvency counselling, the Licensed Insolvency Trustee (LIT) and/or LIT-in-Charge must register a Bankruptcy and Insolvency Act Insolvency Counsellor (BIA Insolvency Counsellor) against their individual LIT licence and, if desired, their corporate licence.

Counsellor registrations must now be submitted through the new BIA Insolvency Counsellor registration tool of the Office of the Superintendent of Bankruptcy (OSB) Licence Administration Application (OLAA). The information previously requested in the PDF application forms will now be entered directly in OLAA. LITs are no longer required to submit supporting documentation, unless requested by the OSB. You can view the status of your application(s), as well as find the counsellor registration number for new applicants on your trustee dashboard in OLAA. Please note that you will no longer receive a confirmation email indicating that an applicant is registered.

In order to facilitate the registration process,LITs will require the applicants to provide them with the information in Form A in sections 1 through 4 for employees, and sections 1 through 4, as well as 10 and 11, for third party applicants. LITs must continue to validate the applicant’s credentials and identification.
