Canada’s shipbuilding and industrial marine sector includes a diverse range of sub-sectors each with unique characteristics, opportunities and challenges. The industry consists of firms with specialized capabilities in manufacturing of mission and platform systems, ocean technologies, offshore oil and gas structure and equipment, vessel construction, repair and maintenance in addition to activities related to research & development, design, engineering, testing, evaluation and architectural services.
Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada’s marine team is responsible for leveraging economic benefits of federal procurement through the National shipbuilding strategy (NSS) Value Proposition and the Shipbuilding and Industrial Marine Policy. The team also conducts research, analysis and outreach to better understand the state of Canada’s marine industry including technology trends, key capabilities, supply chain dynamics, and global markets in order to identify and support opportunities for the Canadian industry.
