Advanced Functions

Using the Advanced Features

The Advanced Features may be accessed by clicking on the "Advanced Features" button appearing below the main panel.

Advanced Features

This will call a login screen which allows you to access the module using your username and password, or register to obtain the latter if you don't have any.


Note:

  • In order to use the Advanced Functions offered in Trade Data Online, you must first create a username and password.
  • This will ensure that your information is secure and can only be modified by you or someone authorized to use your security information.
  • The Industry Canada registration is a free, one-time process.
  • Once registered, you will be asked to enter your new username and password. You will then be brought back to the Trade Data Online application.
  • You can then:
    • Save reports and charts in your own personalized report groups.
    • Run reports/charts individually or together in groups at any time.
    • Edit report/group names, order of reports etc. as required.
    • Download ZIP files with report/chart data in comma-delimited (CSV) text files and HTML page contents.

Once you have logged-in, you can return to the main panel whether you are in the Product (HS) Module or in the Industry (NAICS) Module.

However, the "advanced features" button underneath the main panel will now be replaced by a "manage report groups" button.

Manage Report Groups

Clicking on this button gives you access to the advanced features which are described below:


Current Report Groups

All the reports groups currently saved under your account will be listed alphabetically in the "current report groups" dropdown list.

Select the one you wish to use or edit.

Advanced Feature Buttons

1. (Return to) Main Panel

Exits the "Advanced Functions - Manage Report Groups" screen and returns you to the main panel.

2. (Create) New Group

Allows you to create a new group. You are prompted to enter a unique name. You may also elect to enter a description of the group for reference purposes.

3. Delete Group

Deletes the highlighted group in the drop down menu. A confirmation is requested to help prevent accidental deletions. Once a group is deleted, it is impossible to undo this change.

4. Edit Group

Displays all the report (and graph) selections that are included in the selected group. You may:

  • change the group name,
  • change the group description,
  • rename individual reports (or graphs),
  • delete a specific report (or graph) from the group,
  • change the order in which the report (or graph) appears in batch group runs,
  • run a specific report individually.

To add a report (or graph) to a group, you must return to the main panel and generate it. The "Add Report" button that appears below the report (or graph) can then be used for this purpose.

5. Change Group Owner

Allows you to transfer ownership of the group (and the report it contains) to another Strategis user. Your are prompted to enter the username of the recipient. Once the transfer is effected you no longer have access to the group.

6. Run Group

Runs all the reports (and graphs) in the group against the latest (current) data.

Please note that these are generated in sequence one after the other, and that some time will elapse before all the results are returned for display. The order may be modified using the "Edit Group" function. The amount of time required will vary depending on the number of selections in the group and the complexities of the queries.

The process is completed when the "Save As ZIP File" and other buttons appear at the bottom.

To bookmark : (1) Right click on the following link: Report Group #1 and (2) select "Add Bookmark" or "Add to Favorites" to save the report.

A. Save As ZIP File

Generates a ZIP file with the data in comma-delimited (CSV) format as well as the reports in HTML format. This can be downloaded to your desktop for further manipulation.

If your group includes graphs, the ZIP file will contain any GIF file that is generated, but not any Java applets.

Use your browser's "File - Save As" or "File Download" functions to copy the file to your computer.

B. (Return to) Manage Report Groups

Returns you to the "Manage Report Groups" screen.

C. (Return to) Main Panel

Returns you to the "Main Panel" screen.

D. Add Bookmark (instructions)

Instrutions on how to bookmark the report group also appear below. Advanced functions login is not required to run reports from a bookmarked group. However, to change the group, login is necessary.
