National Recipient

Michael Walter , Jolene Holtvogt-Briens

Jolene Holtvogt-Briens and Michael Walter teach mathematics and science at James Hamblin School in Qu'Appelle. Ms. Holtvogt-Briens and Mr. Walter have developed several programs to encourage the study of mathematics and science at the school. These include peer-tutoring programs and most recently, a school mathematics and science education month, in which students and their parents participate in a number of activities including Science Olympics, Vector Treasure Hunt, and Math Reach For The Top. The results of these teachers' efforts have been impressive. In the last three years, 40% of the school's graduates have chosen to pursue post-secondary education in mathematics and science.
