Certificate of Achievement Recipients
Setting: Centre de la petite enfance
La voûte enchantée
775, rue Bonsecours
Montreal, Quebec H2Y 3C8
Type of Setting: Child-care centre for children 0 to 4 years of age
Philosophy of Care:
Encourage children to learn about other cultures and people, and through this exploration, to develop greater respect, self-esteem, independence, creativity and social skills.
Ms. Drouhin uses the global village as the basis for her teaching. For example, every week the children are asked to research a country and then to present information to the class. At the end of each month, the children are given a passport, in which they can place all the materials they've gathered up during their "trip".
Children are encouraged to bring in traditional foods and music to mark special holidays - such as Hanukkah and the Chinese New Year. Parents are also encouraged to join in the celebrations, and help kids explore different cultures and regions.
Ms. Drouhin continually reviews and refreshes her teaching materials to ensure they meet the latest standards in the early childhood education profession.
In Praise Of:
"What characterizes Ms. Drouhin is her enthousiasm and her perseverance in developing the tools and programs that will help the children discover the entire world outside the child care centre." - Administrator of CPE la Voûte Enchantée
"France's program also prepared (my child) for school by enabling him to get accustomed to having "homework and presentations," and also through his increase in confidence over the last year. All this with a good dose of love and authority." - Parent
