Gas Flow Metering Certification Laboratory

Overview

Measurement Canada's natural gas flow certification services are delivered in accordance with the Electricity and Gas Inspection Act and Regulations.

Service requests

Standards certification can be carried out in the laboratory, on site and in situ. A completed Calibration Services Request form (PDF, 97 KB) is required for these services.

Issues have been reported with the use of Chrome and Mozilla Firefox. If you are using these browsers, the form can still be downloaded by saving it to your computer.

Scope

Rotary Meters

  • Positive displacement, rotary piston: 0.3 – 71 m3/h using air and 10 – 2,500 ft3/h using air.
  • Method: Meters are certified in relation to Measurement Canada's 10 ft3 (Level 1) Master bell prover.
  • Measurement conditions:
    • Temperature: 20 ±2°C
    • Pressure: Ambient
  • Certification location: Measurement Canada Laboratory, Ottawa

Large Rotary Meter (Greater than 2,500 ft3/h)

Certificate is issued to an Authorized Service Provider by the laboratory based on data submitted as per Bulletin G-16 (Recognition of Test Data from Gas Meter Test Facilities).

Turbine Meters (All sizes)

Certificate is issued to an Authorized Service Provider by the laboratory based on data submitted as per Bulletin G-16 (Recognition of Test Data from Gas Meter Test Facilities).

Model 5 Transfer Proving System

  • Certificate is issued to an Authorized Service Provider by the laboratory based on data submitted by Dresser.

Certification of Dimensional Determination of Bell Prover Displaced Volume (Strapping)

  • Master bell provers (Level 2): 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 ft3 displaced volume
  • Method: Bell provers are dimensionally certified using PI-tapes that are traceable to either the NRC or NIST.
  • Measurement conditions:
    • Temperature: Ambient
    • Pressure: Ambient
    • Humidity: Ambient
  • Certification location: Authorized Service Provider site or Measurement Canada district office
