Test site registration

Warning!

Innovation, Science and Economic Development (ISED) Canada has published Decision on New requirements for Wireless Device Testing Laboratories."

As a result of this decision, ISED Canada will only accept test site registrations until March 15, 2019. After March 15, 2019, all test sites will no longer be valid and all test labs will be required to be recognized by ISED. The procedures for becoming a recognized laboratory are contained in DES-Lab and REC-Lab for domestic or foreign test laboratories, respectively.”

Test site facilities performing measurements on radio apparatus shall be registered with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada. A test site registration number will be provided that identifies the specific test site facility where testing will take place. The renewal of the test site facility’s registration shall be every three years.

For any apparatus operating below 1 GHz, the test site shall comply with the requirements in ANSI C63.4-2014. For any apparatus operating above 1 GHz, the test site shall comply with site voltage standing wave ratio (SVSWR) requirements specified in the International Special Committee on Radio Interference (CISPR) CISPR 16-1-4:2010 over the frequency range of 1 GHz to 18 GHz.

Test site facilities – accredited site

The following information shall be submitted to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada to register or renew an accredited test site facility:

  1. A cover letter describing the type of application (i.e. registration or renewal) and existing IC registration number, if applicable;
  2. The physical location and the postal address of the test site;
  3. The control number or asset number of the test site;
  4. Photos of the test site (inside and out) seeking registration/renewal;
  5. A copy of a valid accreditation certificate from a recognized accreditation body; and
  6. A copy of the scope of accreditation including ANSI C63.4-2014 and/or CISPR 16-1-4: 2010, as applicable.

Note: A transition period ending December 31, 2015, is provided; within this period, compliance with ANSI C63.4-2009 will be accepted below and above 1 GHz. After this date, only compliance with ANSI C63.4-2014 and CISPR 16-1-4: 2010, respectively, will be accepted.

Test site facilities – non-accredited site

Warning!

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada no longer accepts non-accredited test sites for registration. Should you wish to register or renew a test site, you must provide the documentation requested above for accredited test sites.

Applicants must submit the following information to Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada to register or renew a non-accredited test site facility:

  1. A cover letter describing the type of application (i.e. registration or renewal) and the existing IC registration number, if applicable;
  2. The physical location and the postal address of the test site;
  3. The control number or asset number of the test site;
  4. Photos of the test site (inside and out) seeking registration/renewal; and
  5. A complete site validation test report demonstrating compliance with ANSI C63.4-2014 and/or CISPR 16-1-4: 2010, as applicable (for below and/or above 1 GHz, respectively).
