Designated Areas for Remote Assessments

June 23, 2014

The OSB has completed the Remote Assessment Project. We would like to thank you for your participation in this project.

Our research has revealed that Designated Areas for Remote Assessment are necessary in many parts of the country due to the vast area requiring service.

Please be advised that effective July 1, 2014, the following will be designated areas for the purposes of remote assessment pursuant to Directive 6R3, Assessment of an Individual Debtor, subsection 16(2).

1) In the following provinces, any location that is at least 100 km from an area where a trustee has a resident or non-resident office:

  • British Columbia
  • Alberta
  • Manitoba, including Northwestern Ontario
  • Québec

2) Nova Scotia: those counties that do not have a resident or non-resident trustee office and that are not regularly serviced by a trustee as established from time to time by the OSB and shared with trustees by the Designated Assistant Superintendent.

3) Newfoundland and Labrador: the Province of Newfoundland and Labrador, with the exception of the area known as the Avalon Peninsula.

4) All requests for remote assessment in Yukon, the Northwest Territories, Nunavut, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick, Saskatchewan and Ontario shall be made to the Designated Senior Bankruptcy Analyst.

Any requests for remote assessment that do not fall within the designated areas shall be made to the Designated Senior Bankruptcy Analyst. Criteria for remote assessment can be found in Directive 6R3, Assessment of an Individual Debtor, section 16.

Please note that these designated areas do not apply to requests for counselling. All requests for remote counselling pursuant to Directive 1R3, Counselling in Insolvency Matters, section 11, shall be made through the E-Filing system to the Designated Senior Bankruptcy Analyst.
